What really bugs you?

You know that feeling of excitement when you have an idea for a new business? What often comes before that thought? Think back and you'll often find that something had really annoyed you. It might have been bad service from a company or a poorly designed product. Out of that came an idea for how to do it better.

Our company logo features a pearl. Pearls are often associated with wisdom rather than inventiveness ... so why did we choose that as a symbol?

The reason is actually very simple. A pearl grows as a result of an oyster being irritated by grains of sand inside its shell. Something beautiful is created as a result of an irritation.

You can use your frustrations as the basis for generating new business ideas. As a first step, create your own 'Bug List'.

  • List all the things that annoy you - companies, situations, products, services and so on.
  • Write down specifically why they bother you - be as precise as you can.
  • Go through your list again and pick out the challenges that most interest you.
  • Work on coming up with better alternatives.

Very often the answer will come to you immediately because you have taken the time to precisely define the problem and what it is that bugs you.

Bingo! ... Eureka! ... Bizeeka! A new business idea is born!

"Lack of money is no obstacle. Lack of an idea is an obstacle."
